It's super cool when a music venue comes with an interesting history and back story. Barn Owl Brewing definitely comes with both.
First of all, the venue is a craft brewery. The entire craft beer scene has been booming over the past few years here in town, and Barn Owl is unique in many ways. Unlike most of the others which are centered in the downtown area, they set up shop out in the
Lower Mission area of Kelowna. Also, they are situated in an official heritage building! The barn itself was moved from its original location, and since being used on a working dairy farm, it has along the way housed an art studio, a pottery studio, an antique shop,
and now a craft brewery.
After an intense 8 months of prep work, they were able to open in July of 2019, and they started hosting live music events soon after. Speaking with Gary Brucker, one of the founders, having live music was part of the plan even before the plan existed. The three
partners, on top of being huge craft beer fans, also love music. The venue includes an upstairs space for live music, and other gatherings, during inclement weather, and during the summer months utilizes the portico in front of the shops across the parking lot
as a stage.
