with Covid still active and new restrictions in place, we are choosing to do mini "photo reviews" for as many shows as we can this year

restrictions limit us to grabbing a few shots during the first 2 or 3 songs and then we need to be on our way

What a wonderful Mothers Day celebration at Barn Owl Brewing yesterday. Local violinist and looping artist Chloe Davidson played an awesome set of live looping songs that featured her sensiblilites as an arranger, a violinist, and a singer.

She opened with "All Of This", and then followed that up with "Enemy" and "Water". The layers she built, one upon the other, still surprised when you heard them together even though you did hear each part as she played it. Pizzicato bass lines and arpeggios, lush chordal like movements, and ultimately alternating between vocals and solos on her violin. She seemed so at ease as she stacked the layers that you forgot that she was even doing it. There was a cohesiveness and fluidity to each that was quite captivating.

It all came together with the sun peaking out from behind the clouds, the warmth of that sun lining up with the warmth of the gathered but socially distanced patrons, and the warm, genial delivery of really nice tunes by a musical artist happy to be contributing to the event in a very supportive and unassuming way. I look forward to seeing her perform under normal circumstances once we're past this whole Covid pandemic and its many accompanying restrictions.

Hearing so many gifted Kelowna musicians over the past few weeks reminds me that all the precautions will be so worth it when we can all get together, every weekend, and hear them really do their thing. Thank you, Chloe, for the reminder and the glimpse of joyful days to come.
