Kelowna R&B artist and singer/songwriter Zoe Marie Welch delivered a remarkable live performance at Red Bird on this Saturday afternoon, accompanied solely by Kelowna jazz keybaord master Neville Bowman.
This was the first time we had seen her with a live musician, and while her backing tracks are of the highest quality, the inclusion of live music into the show took this showing to an even higher level than we had previously seen.
Bowman's playing behind her was exquisite, perfectly supporting and never detracting from the songs or the artist herself.
Ms. Welch appeared singularly composed and fully in the moment, allowing her to bring all of herself into each song, be it original or cover. Transitions between songs were silky smooth, and everything from continually unfolding facial expressions to body and hand movements
revealing more within each song than even her voice and the lyrics themselves might do on their own.
Welch's set list consisted primarily of her original songs but included some select covers of artists whose work she admires. The set list was: You And I, Unrequited Love, Hotel Room, Too Bad, Love Song, Dreams, Get Under, Stalling, Change For You,
Flatlined, Love On The Brain, Run, and Turn On The Lights.
