Kelowna cover artist and budding singer/songwriter Nevaeh Dyson wins Vernon RibFest Talent Search - June 22, 2022

After a 2 year break due to Covid, Vernon RibFest is poised to hold another event this year. As part of making a big splash on their return, they took it upon themselves to incldue a talent search, which has played out over the past several weeks and culminated in the final this past Sunday evening.

In the end, it boiled down to a very diverse group of artists taking the stage a couple nights ago. They included a punk rock trio, a teenage singer/songwriter and cover artist, and a former punk musician who has morphed into a singer/songwriter and solo performer.

Wins Chance to play at the Vernon Ribfest and Consultation with producer Jeff Johnson

Winning the talent search meant Dyson would be invited to play a 2 hour set on the Vernon Ribfest stage, giving those who were not yet aware of her an opportunity to see her perform live and meet her in person. Additionally, Coldstream based songwriter and producer Jeff Johnson was on hand to present her with her trophy. Dyson will receive a free consultation with Johnson aroound career path options and strategies.

The Longhorn Pub & Liquor Store

The Longhorn Pub & Liquor Stored played host to all the rounds of the competition, as well as the final on Sunday, June 19. Their Entertainment Director, Gail Dawn Fisher, was instrumental in helping pull it all together, and Vernon RibFest wants to extend their gratitude towards her and the venue.

The Longhorn has events happening most nights of the week, and hosts live music on Fridays.

Summary

Have to give a major shout out to Elaine Gallacher and her team as they salvaged what looked like was going to be a cancelled event. A host of unforeseen obstacles and cost increases would have detered many if not most.

Also want to acknowledge Swan Lake Market & Garden for stepping in at the last minute and making their huge parking lot and grounds available for the event. They seemed genuinely delighted to play host and have indicated a desire to do so on an ongoing basis.
