How can a couple of months feel like forever? Yet that's how long it seems like it's been since we were able to do the whole "dinner and a movie" thing. Forever.

The film companies and theatre chains alike want to get back in business as much as we want them to. Billions of dollars have been spent producing movies for us, and releases had been scheduled years in advance. So much hangs in the balance for them.

Still, even after restritions are lifted theatre chains will have a lot of work to do, and the whole movie experience will continue to be different for awhile. However, there will be movies, on big screens, for us to escape the craziness of our current world situation for at least an hour or two.

NOTE - The COVID-19 pandemic and the provincial emergency delcaration have meant an immediate closure of all movie theatres. As restrictions loosen and movie theatres announce plans to re-open, we will do our best to keep you up to date.

While nothing has been written in stone, phase 3 is thought to be beginning sometime between June and September. Premier Horgan has suggested that theatres may be able to re-open in July. There are a handful of theatres opening this weekend in Surrey, Pitt Meadows, White Rock and Duncan, but to a maximum of 50 people.

Scouring movie related websites from around the world and closer to home, the closest we can find to release dates of new films anywhere in North America is July 17th, which is the tentative date for Christopher Nolan's "Tenet".

Even after theatres are allowed to re-open, they still face numerous business and logistics issue that will need to be addressed before it makes sense for them to throw open their doors again. We will be talking about some of those issues in other pages coming soon.
