with Covid still active and new restrictions in place, we are choosing to do mini "photo reviews" for as many shows as we can this year

restrictions limit us to grabbing a few shots during the first 2 or 3 songs and then we need to be on our way

Kelowna duo L & JZ dropped in to play The Vibrant Vine and brought along some special guests. We'll get to those other singers in a moment, but first about the duo and their set.

You just know it's going to be a good afternoon when the band starts with "Let's Get It On" and follows that up with "Groovin'". Tag on "Just The Two Of Us" and "Easy" and you have a bucket of groovy vibes and energy to swim around in, or just lay there and float. "Baker Street", "Blackbird", and "Careless Whisper" slid in next to keep the ball rolling before pausing to bring up their special guest vocalist to switch things up a little bit.

Up until this time it had been Libby Coulthard on vocals and Jesse Zeman on saxophone, playing over custom backing tracks. Zeman's smooth sax lines and tones were the perfect compliment to Coulthard's rockier vocals, and they smartly chose songs that could take full advantage of the opportunities for musical interplay between them. Alongside them was Libby's dear friend Katie Fletcher adding harmony vocals to help fill out the sound. Feltcher is a great vocalist in her own right and could front any pop rock band with ease.

The other guest, the one who would take the lead in "Tennessee Whiskey" and "Put Your Records On" was family friend Payton Schell. Schell's lower pitched voice, with its warmth, and her ability to not rush a song, allowed for enjoyable takes on songs that too often sound the same no matter who appraoches them. Nicely done by this young artist who we hope to hear more from and about.

With some restrictions still in place, and a very hectic schedule, we couldn't stay for the rest of the first set let alone the second one. They are scheduled to return to The Vibrant Vine on August 19th so plan ahead and book early.
